Alex Iwobi

Super Eagles preparations in Portugal received a significant boost following the arrival of midfielder Alex Iwobi and Genk defender Christian Akpan in Lisbon.

A total of 19 players made the journey from Poland to Portugal as the team continued its training programme ahead of upcoming assignments. The squad is gradually approaching full strength, with Samuel Chukwueze expected to link up with his teammates on Friday.

Meanwhile, striker Rafiu Durosinmi was granted permission to attend to private matters and did not travel with the rest of the delegation.

The latest arrivals increase the coaching crew’s options as preparations intensify in Lisbon.   With Chukwueze also expected to join the camp on Friday, the team is expected to have a near-complete squad available for the final phase of training.

The Portugal camp is expected to provide the players with additional time to build chemistry, fine-tune tactical plans and improve match fitness ahead of their forthcoming fixtures.

Super Eagles will face Portugal in the international friendly game on Wednesday, June 10.

The Unity Cup champions played a 2-2 draw with Poland on Wednesday night before the trip to Portugal.

The three times African champions are preparing for the 2026 CAF African Nations Cup qualifiers, while Portugal is heading for the 2026 World Cup, which kicks off on June 11 with an opener between host, Mexico, and South Africa.
