There was joy in Team Nigeria’s camp yesterday when female boxer, Ayisat Oriyomi, who was rushed to hospital after being battered by Northern Ireland’s Carly McNaul in a quarterfinal bout at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, returned to the Games Village.

Members of Team Nigeria heaved a sigh of relief when it was announced that the boxer who fought in the Women’s 51 kg has been discharged.

Ayisat ran into a barrage of punches that dazed her and she quickly told the coach that she was no longer seeing her opponent and became defenseless.

Coach Anthony Konyegwachie had to throw in the towel to save her from further punishment.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, Olusade Adesola has advised Team Nigerian athletes harboring the idea to defect from the Commonwealth Games in Australia to think twice before plunging themselves into perpetual regret.

He gave the advice yesterday when he visited the Games Village where all athletes for the Games are lodged.
