Lagos State Rugby Association, in conjunction with the Lagos State Sports Commission, is set to host the U-15s Rugby Championship for boys and girls on Saturday.

Lagos State Rugby Association, in conjunction with the Lagos State Sports Commission, is set to host the U-15s Rugby Championship for boys and girls on Saturday. The event holds at CMS Grammar School, Bariga, Lagos.

According to the organisers, eight states have indicated interest to send their U-15 boys and girls teams to the championship.

Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, Chairman, Lagos State Rugby Association, Larinde Williams, said the championship is organised to discover more talents from the grassroots.

“As a result of the recently concluded National Youth Games in Ilorin, which helped in exposing youths to grow in the game of rugby, the Lagos State Rugby Association decided to stage this tournament to create more awareness at the grassroots, and also discover talents.

“For Rugby to develop in Nigeria, there must be a tournament set aside to develop the kids who are in love with rugby. Eight states have signified their interest in the championship, and it will be fun,” he said.

The tournament begins at 8.00 am and teams expected to feature include Abia, Ogun, Kano, Edo, Kwara, Phscale Academy and the host, Lagos rugby team.
