Lateef Jakande inter-estate soccer tourney begins Sunday
The 2016 Lateef Kayode Jakande Football Competition involving over 15 estates built by the first civilian governor of Lagos State holds from this Sunday, July 31 to August 26 in Lagos.
Teams, from the facilities popularly known as ‘Jakande Estates’ spread across the nooks and crannies of the state, are to lock horns during the round robin and all the way to the semifinals at the Jakande Estate Playing Field, Oke-Afa, Isolo by 2:30 p.m. daily.
A statement by Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mr. Ahmed Shekoni, lists the participating estates as Oke-Afa, Ikorodu, Iponri, Surulere, Obele, Ojokoro, Abesan, Iba and Dolphin Anikantamo.
Others are Oko-Awo, Ilasan, Abule Nla, Epe, Badagry, Ijaye 1, Ijaye 2 (Diary Farm) and Amuwo Odofin.
The rest comprise Amuwo Odofin FHA (Festac Extension), Ita-Alagba and LSDPC Isolo.
According to Shekoni, the event is being held to immortalise the former octogenarian governor for his developmental strides, especially in housing, when he held sway between 1979 and 1983.
The statement further added that the grand finale takes place on August 28 at the UNILAG Sports Complex, Akoka at 2:30 p.m. where cash prizes and awards would be presented to victorious teams as well as outstanding players and personalities that distinguished themselves during the championship.
