Maiden IGP National Open Kickboxing Championship begins tomorrow

The maiden Inspector General of Police National Open Kickboxing Championship is slated to start tomorrow at the Indoor Sports Hall, Police Academy, Ikeja Lagos.

The maiden Inspector General of Police National Open Kickboxing Championship is slated to start tomorrow at the Indoor Sports Hall, Police Academy, Ikeja Lagos.

According to the organisers, the contest, which is being staged in collaboration with the Kickboxing Federation of Nigeria (KBFN), will also include a technical seminar update for those officiating and athletes with a view to introducing the new rules of the sport to keep them updated with what is obtainable in the rest of the world.

“This technical knowledge shall be a prerequisite for officiating during major events, especially at the National Sports Festival scheduled. To this end, the seminar shall cover the following Ring Sports (Full Contact, Low Kick and K-1 styles,” said a statement issued and signed by the KBFN Secretary-General, Olalekan Faseesin.

The statement added: “In view of the above, I am directed to invite coaches, referees and athletes to register and take part in this all-important technical seminar and the main event. The arrival date is May 23; the seminar is May 24 to 25; weigh-in May 25; and the championship will commence on May 26 to 28.

“Further, participants at the event shall be responsible for their transportation logistics, feeding and accommodation respectively. Participants for technical seminar shall pay the following amount: Referee Certification – N5, 000; coaching certification – N5, 000.00; Fighter licence – N3, 000 and registration fee/ per athlete – N1, 000.”
