Moffi celebrates latest Super Eagles call-up with maiden European goal
Terem Moffi on Thursday scored his first ever European goal which was hugely instrumental to his club, OGC Nice, qualifying for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League.
It was his third Europa Conference League game and Moffi made it count when he scored to put Nice 2-0 ahead against Sheriff Tiraspol courtesy of an assist from Pablo Rosario on 53 minutes.
And in the 79th minute, the Nigerian attacking sensation went from goal-scorer to provider when he set up Billal Brahimi to increase Nice’s lead against Sheriff to a healthy 3-1 scoreline.
Fellow Nigerian, Rasheed Ibrahim Akanbi, who is also a striker fired blanks in the game despite playing for 90 minutes as Nice eventually emerged 3-1 winners on the night.
The French Ligue 1 club also progressed to the next stage of the Europa Conference League 4-1 on aggregate, having won the first leg 1-0 in Moldova last week Thursday.
Since linking up with Nice from fellow French Ligue 1 club side, FC Lorient in the winter transfer window back in January, Moffi has scored four goals and made three assists in nine matches for his new team.
Meanwhile, Moffi was one of the 23 players called up by Super Eagles manager, José Santos Peseiro, for this month’s 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying fixtures against the Djurtus of Guinea Bissau.
Nigeria and Guinea Bissau clash at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja from 5pm on Friday, 24th March and then make it a second date at the Estadio 24 de Setembro in Bissau on Monday, 27th March also starting from 5pm.
