Out-of-favour Chelsea’s midfielder John Mikel Obi may be reunited with his former coach Jose Mourinho in January, according to reports in the UK media on Tuesday.

Mourinho coached Mikel at Chelsea.

Mikel, the current Super Eagles captain, has yet to make a substitute appearance for Chelsea in all competitions this season despite featuring fleetingly for the Stamford Bridge club in pre-season.

Rohr has now explained that Mikel has failed to play competitively for Chelsea so far this season because the club’s manager, Antonio Conte, “is punishing him” for representing Nigeria at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. But the player disputed the Super Eagles’ coach claims, saying he got Conte’s approval to participate in the Olympics.

Media reports in the UK suggested that Mikel may move to Manchester United -which he was billed to join before moving to Chelsea – to save his career.

According to the Sun, Mourinho is ready to persuade Chelsea to with the Nigerian captain who is in the final year of his contract for $2 million.
