Fans and polo enthusiasts across the country believe that the journey to repositioning Kaduna Polo Club, the premier polo centre in the north, has just begun with the election of Mohammed Babangida as president of the club.
 
On April 29, 2023, members of the club elected Babangida as the head of the new management committee expected to take the club to its rightful position in the continent.
 
The election gave the members opportunity to review the past year, including the accounts and expenditure of the club, elect members into its executive management committee.
 
At the end of the day, the name everyone had was that of Garkuwan Yamman Katsina, Alhaji Muhammad Babangida, the patron of the El-Amin Polo Team, who had served previously as the first vice president of the club.
 
Other committee members include Brigadier General Kapeh Kazir, as the new first vice president, Mohammed Baba Askira, as the second vice president and Atiku Abubakar Saleh, Baraden Maru, as tournament manager.
 
In his acceptance speech, Babangida commended the energies of the outgoing president, Alhaji Suleman Abubakar, describing him as a person of peace and a leader that honours his words.
 
He reached assured members of the continued commitment to improve upon the legacies of Kaduna Polo Club and to improve the sport’s presence within the polo fraternity.
 
Babangida pleaded with members to accord each other dignity and respect and invariably make the club more hospitable and desirable for its members and the polo family.
 
At the end of the AGM, the club agreed to hold its yearly tournament in late October to early November 2023, with plans already in place put to make this year a remarkable polo experience for all polo enthusiasts.
 
There is a fever going round the polo circles because Kaduna Polo club has just upgraded its pitch 1, which hosts the prestigious Georgian Cup and the anticipation is that this year will see a class of polo never before played in Kaduna.
