Niger Delta sports development summit holds July 25

Rivers State capital, Port Harcourt will host the Niger Delta Sports Summit being put in place by Erupts Sports Consults in conjunction with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on July 25, 2019, the organisers have disclosed.

The CEO of Erupts Sports Consult, Opukiri Jones-Ere said the summit, which will hold at the Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt, would be attended by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, among other dignitaries.

The theme of the summit, which is aimed at stemming youth restiveness in the Niger Delta region, according to Jones-Ere, is “Sports as a catalyst for human capital development and peaceful coexistence in the Niger Delta’.

The chief host of the event is the acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Prof Nelson Brambaifa, while Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is host.

All the Governors of the Niger Delta States, including Udom Emmanuel, Akwa Ibom; Seriake Dickson, Bayelsa; Godwin Obaseki, Edo; Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia; Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta; Emeka Ihedioha, Imo; and Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State are guests of honour.

In addition, papers would be presented by seasoned sports administrators and scholars, including Dr. Patrick Ekeji and Gbenga Elegbeleye, both former Directors General of the defunct National Sports Commission, as well as Professors Ken Anugweje and Emmanuel Ojeme.

There will be special recognition of sports legends (living/dead) from the Niger Delta region during the summit, while federation presidents of wrestling, football, judo, rowing, boxing and badminton, who are from the Niger Delta region, would also attend the summit.
