African champions, D’Tigress, are among the 24 teams listed for the FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying tournaments scheduled to be held in March next year.
The cast of the qualifying tournament was set over the weekend with the conclusion of all the women’s continental cups. The D’Tigress will represent Africa in the series alongside Mali, Senegal, and South Sudan, all semifinalists in the AfroBasket won by Nigeria on Sunday.
The Americas will be represented by Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Puerto Rico, and the USA, who qualified as the top 6 teams at FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2025, while the AsiaCup 2025 top six teams, Australia, China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, and the Philippines qualified from the Asia and Oceania zone.
Women’s World Cup 2026 hosts, Germany, will also participate alongside the Czech Republic and Hungary, winners of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup pre-qualifying tournaments held in August 2024 in Kigali, Rwanda, and Mexico City, Mexico, just as Europe will be represented by Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, and Türkey.
FIBA said that the 24 teams would compete for one of 16 spots in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026, alongside the hosts, Germany, and the winners of each continental championship, who have already secured their spots in the World Cup. This leaves just 11 tickets to Berlin up for grabs.
Apart from the winners of the continental championships and hosts, Germany, FIBA said that the other national teams will qualify for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup through four global qualifying tournaments from March 11 to 17, 2026.
The four qualifying tournaments will feature six teams each, with 11 teams joining the already qualified sides in the final championship in Germany.
