Nigeria’s World Boxing Federation (WBF) Super Featherweight Champion, Ridwan ‘Scorpion’ Oyekola on Saturday defeated Japan’s Daisuke Watanabe in his debut appearance in the Asian country.

In the international boxing challenge bout, Scorpion won on all three judges cards, 78-75, 78-74, and 78-73. It was an eight round slugfest at Gateaux kingdom, Sapporo, Japan.

Reacting to the victory, Scorpion’s promoter, Sir Olawale Okunniyi described the win as another monumental feat from the Ibadan-born fighter.

Okunniyi commended the management of Core Afrique Boxing Promotions (COABOX) boss, Olusola Ayodele, for working towards getting the best out of the boxer.

Also reacting to Scorpion’s win, Chairman of West African Boxing Association (WABU), Remi Aboderin, who also doubles as the Secretary of Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) congratulated Oyekola for defeating Watanabe, who is the second most ranked boxer in Japan.

“Scorpion has done so well by recording a sound victory in far away Japan. He is one of the few boxers in recent times to achieve such a laudable feat,” said Aboderin.
