Nothing to fear about Ghana, CHAN Eagles assure
Players and officials of Super Eagles B team have assured Nigerians that they have what it takes to stop Ghana and secure qualification for the 2025 CHAN tournament.
The Super Eagles Team B, also known as the CHAN Eagles held their own and forced Ghana Galaxies to a goalless draw in the first leg of the qualifying playoff round at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The return leg will hold at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo this weekend, and Head Coach of the Super Eagles B team, Daniel Ogunmodede, says they are fully ready to eliminate the Ghanaians.
The 0-0 drew in Accra on Sunday was the first time in the history of the qualifying tournament that the Nigerian team would come out of Ghana unbeaten.
“I am satisfied with the draw we played in Accra, and I am confident we will beat them in Uyo. We have done our work, and the players are ready to make Nigeria proud on Saturday. We are fully aware of the implication of the qualification. The players are up to the task and make a name for themselves.
“The qualification will add more value to our league, the players and the Indigenous coaches. We had a shaky first half in Accra, but we improved after the restart. That was why we got the draw. We are going for victory on Saturday,” he stated.
His Ghanaian counterpart, Coach Mas-Ud Dramani, is confidence of turning the table against Nigeria on Saturday in Uyo. He stated that his players did well in the first leg but were unfortunate not to have scored in a match they dominated.
“I think it was a very tight game we played on Sunday in Accra. We controlled the greater part of the game and I am confident we will get the job done in Uyo,” he said.
The last time out in the same tournament, it was Ghana that picked the ticket after a 2-2 draw over the two legs. The Galaxies pipped the CHAN Eagles on penalties at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
On Saturday in Uyo, the Ghanaian team will be backed by the mentality of the last World Cup play-off tournament between the Super Eagles and the Black Stars, which they won in Abuja to seal their qualification to Qatar 2022. After a goalless outing in Kumasi, Nigeria forced the visitors to a 1-1 draw in Abuja and thus gifted the Ghanaian the ticket on the away goal rule.
The overall winners of the final playoff will advance to the delayed 2024 CHAN to be played in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from February 1 to 28, 2025.
