Beyond the competitive atmosphere, it was a moment to relax and enjoy a unique ambience at the just-concluded Sixth Taekwondo Invitational Tournament staged by Chika Chukwumerije Sports Foundation (CCSF).

Octagon TKD came out top with 26 medals, including eight gold, seven silver and 11 bronze medals. Abuja-based Eagle TKD came second with five gold, six silver and 10 bronze medals, FCT won two gold medals, while Alamo TKD and Martial Arts won one silver medal each.

Niger’s Prestis TKD was the only invited club that did not register on the medal table.

In the individual awards, FCT’s Uneh Unique won the woman athlete of the tournament gong, while the men’s athlete of the tournament award went to Octagon TKD’s Jideofor Chukwumerije, whose explosive finals with Achu Franco of Alamo TKD and Martial Arts earned a fight of the tournament award.

Speaking about the competition, founder and Chief Executive Officer CCSF, Chika Chukwumerije, said: “What you go and pay so much to get in form of entertainment, we have decided to give you even more free of charge. While you enjoy the vibes, you also have things like barbecue and other edibles to relax with.”

A total of 82 competitors competed in 15 categories across kiddies, cadets and juniors’ levels. This successful edition was a test-run of a much bigger edition set to hold in December 2023.
