• As para event takes centre stage today
Bose Odusanya and Rilwan Akanbi, yesterday, cruised into the women and men’s quarterfinal of the ongoing Molade Okoya-Thomas Table Tennis Championships holding at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
Among hundreds of players, who took part in both the women and men categories, the boys were literally separated from the men, as defending champions, Odusanya and Akanbi, enjoyed easy rode into the quarterfinals of the singles event.
Speaking on her form and what her fans should expect, Odusanya, who is the most successful player in the competition, having won it more than any player in the history of the competition, said she hopes to extend her reign in the female category by also winning this year’s edition.
“I am in this year’s championship to retain my title. I know, however, that it is not going to be an easy task due to the growing number of good players in Lagos State. I am certain the title will not elude me again this year,” she said.
Meanwhile, the men and women singles in class 1-5 and class 6-10 para event will commence today in the oldest competition staged in Africa.
The championship organised by the Lagos State Table Tennis Association, is done in collaboration with the Lagos State Sports Commission.
The competition ends tomorrow with the finals to be decided in the men and women singles categories inside the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of the stadium.
