Osimhen, Ighalo yet to arrive Eagles’ camp as team prepare for Lone Stars
Victor Osimhen, Odion Ighalo and goalkeeper, John Noble are still being expected in camp for the Match Day Five FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 African qualifier against the Lone Star of Liberia in Tangier, Morocco.
Nigeria currently tops the Group C table with nine points, followed by Cape Verde with seven points, while the Central African Republic and Liberia are in third and fourth positions with four and three points respectively.
The camp is said to be bubbling with the team’s captain, Ahmed Musa and 20 other invited players, preparing against Liberia. The team had its first training session in Tangier, yesterday, for the Saturday clash.
Players were said to have had a gym session at the hotel in the morning and were scheduled to train in the evening at the Grand Stade de Tanger, also known as Stade Ibn Batouta, in a 45,000-capacity facility that was opened in April 2011. The duel between Nigeria and Liberia is expected to be played in an empty stadium.
The hosts, Liberia were said to have made no move to get the Confederation of African Football to approve crowd attendance for the match against Nigeria.
The three-time African champions need all three points against Liberia to stay in contention for the knockout phase of the World Cup qualifiers, set for March 2022.
However, the final Matchday six fixture will hold next week on December 7, as the Super Eagles will host the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
MEANWHILE, only the group winners will proceed to the knockout phase that will be a home-and-away exercise to produce the continent’s five flag bearers for the 2022 Mundial in Qatar.
