Osimhen’s exploits in Europe thrill Oba Aromolaran
The paramount ruler of Ijesaland, Oba Dr. Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran has expressed delight at the current progress being achieved by Nigerian striker, Victor Oshimen, who played in the first Oba Aromolaran U-17 Soccer Tournament held in 2014 in Ilesa, Osun State.
Speaking while hosting officials of the Professional Sports International (PSI), organisers of the third edition of the grassroots tournament conceptualized and sponsored by the Owa Obokun of Ijesa to discover new talents for national junior teams, Oba Aromolaran said, “It is my delight that notable among talents discovered via this competition is Victor Oshimen, who is currently making waves in Europe.
He played in the first edition of the tournament with Edo State team here in Ilesa.”
The Lille and Super Eagles’ striker, who has been on the move in the game since he won the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup with the Golden Eaglets, played in the maiden edition of Oba Aromolaran U-17 Soccer Tournament in Ilesa in 2014.
“The exploits of our boys at this category of football motivated me to sponsor the U-17 Soccer Tournament, which has greatly benefited Nigerian youths. Many young lads have secured a breakthrough via their participation in the age grade competition,” he said.
The monarch pledged to continue sponsoring the tournament and also supporting other ventures that would benefit Nigerian youths.
Meanwhile, the coordinator of PSI, Lukman Akande Arisekola has vowed to improve the tournament by introducing many innovations into it, which involves inviting foreign scouts to fish out talents during the tourney.
Arisekola hinted that trophy presentation would be held at the Adimula Palace in Ilesa today, adding that the much-anticipated third edition of the tournament will kick off in January 2020.
The last edition of the tournament was held at Ilesa Technical College in 2016.
