Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah

Over 3,000 athletes are set to line up for the 2nd Enugu City International Marathon holding on Saturday, August 29.

Organised by Nilayo Sports Management with full backing from the Enugu State government, the race has drawn massive interest from elite runners, grassroots athletes, and fun participants across Nigeria, Africa, and the diaspora, all jostling for medals, prize money, and bragging rights.

Final arrangements for the ‘Marathon Expo’ will commence soon to serve as the official kit pickup point for all registered runners and will feature brand activations by various sponsors.

According to the organisers, athletes and the public will experience a week-long buildup of sports, music, wellness, and business showcases ahead of race day.

To round off the pre-race activities, the Enugu City International Marathon world press conference will hold on August 28.

The conference will bring together organisers, government officials, elite athletes, and sponsors to unveil final race details, security arrangements, and the full prize structure.

The 2026 Enugu International Marathon is a 42km elite race that will flag off at 6.30 a.m. from ShopRite, Abakaliki Road, while the 10km Fun Run will start at 8.30 a.m. from Chris Tee Petrol Station, CIC Road, to end at Okpara Square by 12.30 p.m.

The organisers said yesterday that security, medical, hydration and traffic management plans have been finalised to ensure a safe and world-class experience for athletes and spectators.

Meanwhile, hosts, Enugu State, have assured that it is ready to host a festival of endurance, culture and opportunity that will further cement its place as a hub for sports and tourism in Nigeria.
