Over 90 players have converged on Abuja for the 2025 CBN Senior Tennis Championship billed to hold from July 21 to 25.
The players will fight for honours in the men’s and women’s singles, the doubles and the wheelchair categories at the 46th edition of the championship at the tennis courts of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Speaking ahead of the championship on Wednesday, CBN’s Acting Director, Corporate Communications, Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, reaffirmed the bank’s long standing commitment to nation building, nothing the vital role young people play in national development over the years.
She said: “This championship has helped young talents, providing them with a constructive outlet and chance to showcase their talents and abilities on the national stage.”
Organised by the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), in partnership with the CBN, the tournament is a key platform for identifying and nurturing future talents for the country. Notable among celebrated tennis players produced by this championship are David Imonite, Sunday Maku, Veronica Oyibokia-Iwebema, Christy Agugbom, Sarah Adegoke, Sylvester Emmanuel, Imeh Joseph, Oyinlomo Quadri and Mary love Edwards.
This year’s championship will feature 64 men’s singles and 32 women’s singles games, as well as the men’s and women’s doubles, which have 32 players in each category.
There is also the wheelchair category, which has 16 players in both the men’s singles and women’s singles categories.
