Super Eagles manager, Jose Peseiro has confirmed that he has left his position with the Nigerian men’s senior national team.

Peseiro whose contract as the Super Eagles coach expired on Thursday, February 29, 2024, confirmed his departure on Friday through a post on his X handle.

“Yesterday, we concluded our contract with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF). It was a pride and honor to coach the Super Eagles,” Peseiro said.

“It has been 22 months of immense dedication, sacrifice, emotion and enormous enthusiasm. We feel a sense of fulfillment.”

Peseiro expressed gratitude on behalf of his backroom staff to Amaju Pinnick, the NFF president who signed them, current NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi.

The Portuguese football tactician also expressed his gratitude to the NFF Secretary Dayo Enebi, the NFF, all the staff, and especially all the players, with whom he said leading has been a great pleasure.

“Guys, we are thankful, it has been a privilege to be part of this family,” Peseiro stated on X.

“We will miss you, but we will always be there for you, no matter where you are. A big hug to all of you.”

Peseiro led the Super Eagles to the final of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast on February 12.

The Super Eagles who had failed to impress before the tournament kicked off, however, picked up the silver medal after losing 2-1 to host nation, Ivory Coast in the final.
