President Federation Cup: Enyimba looking beyond Ikorodu City

Former African champions, Enyimba of Aba, see the President Federation Cup as an avenue to redeem their image after a tough Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season that saw them struggling for survival.

The Peoples Elephant managed to avoid the drop to the lower Nigeria National League (NNL) on the last day of the league, but the team have promised to make up for the poor league form in the President Federation Cup.

They will face Ikorodu City in the round of 16 of the competition in Benin City, and according to the new kid on the block, Nelson Sule, it is another game in the rejuvenation of the People’s Elephant.

Sule, who was the hero when Enyimba overcame Gombe United in the last round of the competition on Monday, sees the game against Ikorodu City as another test in their quest for a trophy this season.

He said: “We are taking each game as they come, but there is the determination among the players to end the season with something.

Ikorodu City will be tough, but we will be ready.”

In other games of the round of 16, Sokoto United will face Adamawa United in an all-NNL tie, while Bendel Insurance will take on El-Kanemi Warriors.

Kada Warriors will be up against Wikki Tourists, who were relegated from the NPFL last season.

Bida Lions will host Flight FC in the remaining lower-league encounter.

NPFL clubs dominate the rest of the draw, with Rivers United facing Nasarawa United and Plateau United taking on FC Basira.

Sunshine Stars U19 will round off the fixtures against Barau FC.
