Twenty-Two teams, 12 in men and 10 in women categories, will be competing in the 2021 Prudent Energy Handball Premier League slated for the Indoor Sports Hall, Package B of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

The championship, which is the first phase of this year’s league, will hold between October 20 and November 4, on a round-robin basis.

Newly promoted teams, Tojemarine of Lagos, Police Machine, Bayelsa Queens and Confluence Queens from the National Division One League held in Benin City, Edo State, will be part of the country’s top tier handball league.

Handball Federation of Nigeria Secretary-General (HFN), Maigidansanma Mohammed, said registrations for the championship would be concluded this weekend.

“It’s going to be a better competition than last season and that is why I urge participating teams to ensure that they complete their transfer registrations so that there won’t be any hitch ahead of the commencement of the league,” Maigidansanma said.

HFN’s President, Mr. Samuel Ocheho, who thanked Prudent Energy and Services Limited for supporting the sport, said the aim is to ensure the federation keeps discovering young players and also help them to maximise their potentials, which the league is a great avenue to achieve that.

“The Prudent Energy Handball Premier League 2021 will be better than previous seasons and for us as a federation, we thank Prudent Energy and Services for keeping faith with us for the past four years.

“This championship will afford us the opportunity to continue the discovery of new talents with great potentials and helping them to maximise it. We will not relent until we do so,” he stated.
