Rivers Hoopers storm Morocco for FIBA Africa Basketball league

Battles SLAC Of Guinea Today

FIBA Africa Zone 3 Champions, Rivers Hoopers of Port Harcourt departed Nigeria in the early hours of yesterday to take part in inaugural FIBA Africa Basketball League Group A games. The competition began yesterday in Morocco and will end on tomorrow.

The Rivers State-based side, nearly suffered a walk over in the competition due to finance constrain. Rivers Hoopers left Lagos with eleven players and the head coach Ogoh Odaudu.

The Nigerian representatives played their opening game of the championship last night against host and defending Champions, AS Sale of Morocco. They will file out against SLAC of Guinea today before taking on JS Kairouan of Tunisia tomorrow. Rivers Hoopers had cried out for financial assistances earlier in the week, when it became clear that the team might suffer a walk over in the competition. It was not clear yesterday if River State government sponsored the trip.
