Hundreds of youths stormed the Agege Township Stadium to take part in the screening exercise for the first edition of BOS Youth Cup organised by the Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) to Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu under the BOS Academy.

The screening in Agege is one of other exercises across the 57 Local Government (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of over 5,000 youths expected to participate in 20 centres of the state to pick players and teams that will be involved in the football tournament.

The trials of eligible players with LASSRA cards and shortlisting of 23 players, comprising three goalkeepers and 20 outfield players for the BOS Youth Cup took place at LGAs/LCDAs level for intra-scouting games among the councils to pick All Star Players for the 20 LGAs for the competition.

The BOS Youth Cup, a football competition for youths U21 years across all councils within the state, is part of efforts by the Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led regime to curb restiveness and promote sports and youth development in the state.

Speaking at the screening exercise in Agege, Chairman of Lagos State Football Association Technical Committee, Mr. Dotun Coker, said the BOS Youth Cup has been well accepted by the target youths, adding that the turnout for the contest at every location is encouraging.

He said the BOS Youth Cup is one of the events for grassroots football development, where the professionals are not allowed to feature. He added that the tournament is strictly for residents of a local council.

Coker stated that some scouting agencies and corporate organisations within and outside the country will be involved in the tournament for football growth, adding that academic scholarship will be given to players involved in the contest to bring glory to themselves, families, local councils and Lagos State.
