The Director General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Comrade Philip Shaibu, has urged the 32-member Advisory Committee to develop a strategic roadmap to transform the institute into a world-class institution for sports education, research, and athlete development.
Shaibu, who is the immediate past deputy governor of Edo State, handed down the plea yesterday while inaugurating the high-powered advisory committee at the Awoture Eleyae Conference Hall, NIS, National Stadium, Lagos.
According to Shaibu, the major task ahead is to develop a strategic roadmap to transforming the NIS as a centre of excellence in sports training and research, promote innovation and professionalism in sports administration, and at the same time, align sports development with global standards.
“This strategic plan is not just a document; it is our roadmap to excellence, our commitment to Nigeria’s youth, and our contribution to the nation’s sporting heritage. Together, we will build an institution that will be the pride of Africa and a beacon of excellence for generations to come,” he stated.
In the 32-member advisory committee are Musa Kida, Mike Itemuagbor, Prof. Ken Anugweje, Dr. Kweku Tandoh, Mary Onyali, Yusuf Alli, Coach Austin Eguavoen, Dr. Alex Mana, Prof. Florence Adeyanju, Prof. Clement Fasan, Prof. Raimi Moronfolu, Prof. Sadiq Abdullahi, Andrew Abbah, and Godwin Enakhena.
