Sports betting boss explains decision to renew Phyno’s deal
Although music plays prominent role in most sporting events, it is not always easy to see a Nigerian betting company signing a rapper to represent its brand. And so the many sports enthusiasts, who gathered at the Nairabet Towers to witness the event, could not help but seek to find out why the firm chose a rapper as its brand ambassador.
Explaining Nairabet’s decision to stick with Phyno, the betting outfit’s Chairman, Akin Alabi, said his firm was into the deal because of the followership the rapper has garnered across the continent.
“We are renewing his contract because he has a blemish free career and his followership in the South East and South South is so huge and complements very well with us.
“We brought him in last year and he has contributed to the brand a lot and we believe we have also contributed to his brand, so it was an easy decision to renew the contract.”
He disclosed that the outfit has many footballers as ambassadors, including Arsenal Ladies’ forward, Asisat Oshoala, adding that Nairabet chose to go into music because sports and music complement each other well.
“On our platform, one can take bet on which musician will win an award or even the American presidential elections. So, even though we are a sports betting outfit, we are also into entertainment and politics, among other things,” he revealed.
Also speaking on the deal, Phyno, whose real name is Azubuike Chibuzor Nelson, said, “It has been a great year and a great journey working with Nairabet as their brand ambassador.
“I have really enjoyed working with the company. The entire Nairabet family has been good to me. It is a known fact that Nairabet is the number one sports betting firm in the country. They conduct their businesses in a open and straight forward manner.”
