The Delta State Sports Commission Chairman, Tonobok Okowa, has charged all participants to say no to drugs if they must be counted among future champions.
Okowa made this remark while delivering his address at the opening ceremony of the 7th National Youth Games in Asaba Delta State.
He noted that as future champions, saying no to drug temptations would further their sporting career just like their predecessors in sports.
While he expressed optimism in the state of the art sports facilities Delta State has assembled for the Youth Games, Okowa also enjoined the athletes to take advantage of it and excel in their individual events.
“Youth Games play an important role in sports development as it also provides the platform for athletes’ discovery and constitutes the pool from which athletes are groomed to represent the country at international competitions,” he said.
Okowa, who also doubles as the President of Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), welcomed all participants and urged Team Delta to win for the state.
Meanwhile, Delta State Governor Rt.Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has commended the Delta Sports Commission for packaging and giving the National Youth Games a bright head-start.
