Super Eagles relish Katsina experience
Members of the Super Eagles have described the Karkanda Stadium’s pitch as the best astroturf in the country after experiencing the new turf on Tuesday.
The Eagles played a goalless draw at the magnificent arena with national league side, Spotlight FC. It was a friendly aimed at shaping up the national team for the June 13 Nations Cup qualifier against Chad in Kaduna.
Speaking of the new stadium, Eagles Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, described the turf as excellent, even as he added that it is a place Eagles would love to return and play.
“What they have here in Katsina is an excellent turf. The boys and Coach Stephen Keshi couldn’t believe it. It is a different breed of astro turf that is cool and lush green.
If only all the synthetic turfs in the country were like this, the Eagles won’t complain and insist on playing on natural grass,” Ibitoye said.
He praised the Katsina State government and the corporate body that constructed the turf Monimichelle for doing a good job.
Also speaking n the turf, Monimichelle Managing Director, Ebi Egbe who was in Katsina to watch the Eagles play, said the turf would be the same as that of the stadium in Nnewi, which his outfit is also constructing for Ifeanyi Ubah FC.
“I m happy the Eagles have played in Katsina and have seen that the difference is clear when it comes to the job Monimichelle is doing.
The turf in Katsina is built with coconut fibre technology, so the pitch can’t be hot and it will remain lush green and smooth as far as it is well maintained,” Egbe said. Egbe charged other state governments to emulate the Katsina, even as he insisted that its kind of astro turf is endorsed by FIFA and cheaper to maintain when compared to natural grass.

Spotlight Fc is not of Abuja. Please, it is of Katsina, it’s the former Katsina United. It’s now a state-owned team
We will review and take appropriate action.
