Team Nigeria arrives in Cameroon for Beach Volleyball championship

Nigeria’s male and female national beach volleyball teams will participate in the second edition of the Carmtel International Championships, which will hold in Yaounde from today. It will end on December 30.

The head coach of the Beach Volleyball teams, Francis Imougu stated yesterday that the Nigeria side had the capacity to overcome any team in the tournament. Imoungu said the players for the Cameroon tourney were selected based on their outing at the recently concluded National Sports Festival in Abuja.

He expressed optimism that the male and female teams would have a good outing in Yaoundé.

“The players have been in one week camping exercise in Kaduna, and the players are mentally and physically prepared for the international championships. President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod has been the brain behind the success of beach volleyball in Nigeria, and we promise not to let him down.”

“During the inaugural championship, the Nigeria women’s team won gold medal, while the men’s team settle for a silver. This time around, we are prepared to bring home gold medals in both male and female categories.” he said.

The Nigeria team to Cameroon  comprises of two male coaches (Godwin Shekaru and Andrew Sunday), while the females team is led by the duo of Tochukwu Nnourge and Francisca Ikhiede.
