The country’s contingent to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which starts from July 23, will leave the country in two batches. Youth and Sports Development Minister, Sunday Dare, disclosed this yesterday at a ministerial meeting on Tokyo 2020 held at the Media Centre, MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

The Minister said the first batch is expected to leave on July 6, while the second batch leaves on July 13 in accordance with the organisers’ rules.

Remarkably, the country would not feature in the football events, which kicks off with the women category on July 21. The men’s category will begin July 22.

South Africa, Egypt and Cote d’Ivoire are Africa’s representatives in the men’s football event, while Zambia is Africa’s sole team in the women tournament of the Games.
