Teams compete for laurels at netball challenge

Four teams will be competing for honours in tomorrow’s Bringing Netball Back (BNB) club championship holding at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.

Four teams will be competing for honours in tomorrow’s Bringing Netball Back (BNB) club championship holding at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.

Participating in the challenge are Alphas, Blazing Bullets, Gladiators and So United, made up of male and female players. The event is being organised to spread the awareness of netball and also raising funds for charity.

The championship, which is in its third edition, is bankrolled by the Model Steel Industries and the Lagos State Sports Commission has been resolute in trying to encourage BNB’s efforts to revive netball in Nigeria and starting it at the grassroots.

According to the President of BNB, Abimbola Smith, the game of Netball a woman’s event, gradually gaining popularity amongst men.

While expressing her appreciation to the sponsors over their support in sustaining the objectives of BNB over the years, Smith an ardent lover of the game, said the game is not only about the girl-child playing netball but also about young girls getting engaged in sports and getting active.

She, however, appealed to school owners, parents and guardians to encourage girls to take up netball that teaches valuable life skills like teamwork, concentration, discipline, fitness, tenacity and competitiveness.
