Athletes and keep fit enthusiasts are rounding up their training for the Warri Peace Marathon, just as world famous cultural ambassador, Adjarho David Oboro, sparked off excitement with his entry into the race billed for Saturday May 28.

Oboro, who has ran in various marathons around the world, and usually decked in traditional attires of the people of Southern Nigeria, said he was excited running in the maiden Warri Peace Marathon, which he described as home coming for him.

“I started running marathon with my wrapper in Europe since 2010. Locally, I have been doing a whole lot of races, including the Okpekpe race with my wrapper. This is my first time of running in Delta State and I am excited.

“Apart from the race, I will be speaking to the youths on several social issues. How they can create employment for themselves because there are several opportunities for them to become successful entrepreneurs,” said Oboro, whose wrapper weights 4kg and is 38 yards long.

The Warri Peace Marathon is a 10km race solely meant for athletes in the region. It has a first prize of N150, 000, the second prize is N120, 000, N100, 000 for the third place.

N20, 000 each for the fourth to 20th positions in both the men and women categories.
