Immediate past Director General of Delta State Sports Commission, Festus Ohwojero, has described the promotion of Warri Wolves to the elite Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), as great reward for handwork, not only on the part of players and coaches but the entire work force of the Sports Commission.
The Seasiders, as Warri Wolves is called, defeated Crown FC of Ogbomoso 2-1 in the last group match of the Southern Conference in the 2025 Nigeria National League playoff on Thursday inside Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
To Ohwojero, the victory brought relief and joy to millions of Deltans. Delta State had waited for four years to return to the elite division due to what fans of Warri Wolves described as ‘poor management’ by some past administrators.
An elated Ohwojero was full of praises for the current Chairman of Delta Sports Commission, Onoriode Oborevwori, for his foresight, listening ears and qualifty managerial skills.
Speaking with The Guardian on Friday, Ohwojero said: “Six months may be a short time in governance, but for the Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Oborevwori, it has been a period of bold strides, strategic reforms, and measurable results,” he said. “Since assuming office, Oborevwori has not only maintained Delta State’s position as a dominant force in Nigerian sports, but has also engineered a cultural and structural rebirth across several sporting disciplines.
“From guiding Team Delta to a resounding victory at the National Sports Festival in Ogun State, to creating a stable, performance-driven environment that helped Warri Wolves FC secure promotion to the NPFL, his leadership has been marked by clarity of vision, swift action, and unyielding commitment to athlete welfare,” Ohwojero stated.
Meanwhile, the General Manager of Warri Wolves, Neville Ambakederemo, has equally commended the Delta Sports Commission boss, Oborevwori for the club’s promotion to the elite NPFL.
“I must acknowledge the quality leadership role played by the Sports Commission Chairman in this promotion of Warri Wolves to the NPFL. He ensured that the players and coaches are well ntaken care of, and that is key in success of football clubs.
Ambakederemo also praised Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for the ongoing rehabilitation of key infrastructure, including the Warri Township Stadium.
