The 2019 Lagos Women Run will hold…on Saturday.

Participants in Saturday’s Lagos Women Run will experience an atmosphere conducive for them to display the best of their ability, the major sponsor of the competition has promised.

The Lagos Women Run, now in its fourth edition, will flag off by 7.00 a.m. at the Tarawa Balewa Square, and move through Broad Street, CSS Bookshop, Central Bank of Nigeria, Tinubu Square, Apogbon, Eko Bridge, the coal thermal station and the National Theatre via the National Stadium with the finish line at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

Thousands of women across age strata have registered for the run that promises to be a memorable outing for the participants, organisers, the government and sponsors alike. The run that will also be attended by other African countries is expected to prepare women for bigger marathon within and outside Nigeria and the African continent.

Details of the run shows that there is no group registration, rather it encourages participants to register as individuals. However, they can organise themselves into groups to run collectively as part of making it exciting and engaging for them. Also worthy of note is the inclusion of the race that will allow all runners both veteran and open to start together, however the veteran run timing differs from the open run and will be judged accordingly with different prizes to be given.

The race’s major sponsor, Bet9ja yesterday disclosed that it is part of its efforts to create socio-economic opportunities for Nigerians through its operations aimed at enhancing livelihoods.

The support for the 10km marathon, expected to take within 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes, is a demonstration of the company’s drive to create enabling platforms for the female gender to excel in sporting activities, develop healthy lifestyle and as well boost their total wellbeing.

Speaking on Bet9ja’s support for the event, the Senior Marketing Manager, Femi Osobajo, said, “We believe in creating opportunities for people to excel in their area of passion. The Lagos Women Run is a good platform for us to support the female gender as part of our overall commitment to enhance the development of sports in Nigeria by complementing government’s efforts in this regard.”

Meanwhile, organisers of the marathon have assured of safety during the race with the closure of some roads for proper traffic management to minimize disruption of movements by the general public.
