France icon, Emmanuel Petit, reckons sex is a better feeling than scoring in the World Cup final and winning football’s Holy Grail, reports talksport.com.

The ex-Arsenal midfielder grabbed Les Bleus‘ third in their 3-0 victory over Brazil in the 1998 final. Zinedine Zidane had scored two first half headers, before Petit sealed the win for the hosts in injury time after being played in by Gunners teammate, Patrick Vieira.

But the 52-year-old has joked that he’d rather be under the sheets than wheeling away in delight, with no feeling coming close to the act of reproduction. Speaking to CasinoEnLigne.ca, Petit said: “Is scoring in a World Cup final better than sex?

“Well, we’re not supposed to play football when we’re put on this Earth, but we are supposed to reproduce so…

“I try to find the same feeling of scoring in a World Cup final in my private life, and to be honest, when my daughters were born I felt the same thing.

“I was in the right place, I was proud of it, like I did something good. Something you can remember and be proud of.

“And scoring in a World Cup, especially a final, the last goal of the game in front of your own fans and family – it changes your life forever.

“It changed my teammates’ lives as well, and when you have the chance to win the World Cup you touch every single heart in your country, even those not interested in football.

“You can win Champions Leagues with your club, and you will touch the fans of the club, but you won’t touch the population.

“If you win with your country you’re not a footballer anymore, you’re a citizen, an ambassador of your country.

“You are a representative and you want to give the best to the world, which means if you have the chance to win something with your country, trust me this is different.”

Petit’s strike into the bottom corner against Brazil was his second international goal for France He had scored his first for Les Bleus earlier in the World Cup against Denmark.

France have the chance to become the first country to successfully defend the World Cup since Brazil in 1962. After winning in Russia four years ago, Didier Deschamps’ side have once again progressed into the showpiece match, with only Argentina standing in their way.
