World Cup 2026: Onuachu ‘in pains’ over Super Eagles absence

The Super Eagles of Nigeria

Top striker, Paul Onuachu has said that the Super Eagles absence at the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues to haunt him.

Onuachu who spoke before the Super Eagles took on Poland in a friendly on Wednesday stated that despite parading some of the best players in Africa, Nigeria failed to pick one of the 10 tickets to represent the continent at the world soccer fiesta to be hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico.

“Sad we’re not going to the World Cup,” Onuachu said.
“Because we have good players, great players, world-class players, but unfortunately we are not going to the World Cup, but it’s football.”

At 31, Onuachu and his present teammates would have to wait another four years and based on the rich base of talents that keep springing up, there is no guarantee Onuachu will be in the next team. This 2026 World Cup might as well be a last chance for him and other senior Super Eagles players to play in the World Cup.

Onuachu had a good 2026 season with his Turkish club, Trabzonspor, who finished behind Victor Osimhen’s Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in the league.
