Sponsors of the 11th Zenith Bank Women Basketball League, which commences this weekend in Abuja, Zenith Bank, has given the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) N30 million to bring more glamour and raise the standard of the women league.
Disclosing the development at the National Stadium Lagos on Tuesday, NBBF President, Tijjani Umar, disclosed that 18 teams would play in the league, just as he praised Zenith Bank for its over 10 years relationship with women basketball.
He said, “Zenith Bank’s sponsorship of the female basketball league has assisted in developing the sport. Through the sponsorship deal some of our female basketball players have been exposed to better playing conditions and now families allow their girls to get involved in the sport because of the glamour that has been brought to the game.
“We are starting with the first phase of the league in Abuja while the venue of the second phase, which would hold in either Delta or Kwara would be decided in our next board meeting on Friday. NBBF is proud to note that superstars have been discovered in the female league over the years. NBBF also appeal to other stakeholders to bring other ideas that will enable basketball be more prominent in the country.’’
