After months of preparations, the official kick off of the annual Zenith Bank /Delta Principals’ Cup Football Competition will hold today at St. Patrick’s College, Asaba.

After months of preparations, the official kick-off of the annual Zenith Bank /Delta Principals’ Cup Football Competition will hold today at St. Patrick’s College, Asaba.

Getting ready for the kick off, the state’s Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Patrick Ukah, said all arrangements for the event have been concluded.

Ukah said, “We are fully set for this competition and we are going to make the young ones enjoy themselves from now till the end.

“The combination of sports and education is always interesting for the youth. It is important for them to learn many aspects of football at tender age and that is why we are taking the competition seriously in all areas.”

The State’s Deputy Governor, Kingsley Otuaro is scheduled to be the chief host and also take the kick off during the ceremony expected to attract a large turn-out of dignitaries, as well as football fans.

Top officials of the sponsors, Zenith Bank are also expected to grace the event, which was revived only three years ago after being in limbo for many years.

Head of the organizing team for the event, Tony Pemu, disclosed that the kick off match would be between Isioma Onyeobi Secondary School and Niger Mixed Secondary School, both in Asaba. The match starts at 2pm.

“We expect the competition to be better than that of the past editions in every aspects especially the standard of play and officiating,” he said.

Pemu added that the preliminaries would determine the representatives of each local government area in the state.
About 850 public and private secondary schools are participating in this fourth edition of the competition.
