Idakwo Samuel

Cornelius Idakwo Samuel, a multi-talented musician renowned as a music producer, pianist, and music director, has carved a distinct niche for himself in the world of music. His creative and contemporary musical style harmoniously blends tribal melodies with modern sounds.

In a candid conversation, Samuel shared the story of his lifelong passion for music. “I’ve dreamt of being a musician since my earliest days,” he recalled. “I’d create rhythms by tapping plates together, much like a jazz drummer. My parents recognized my love for music and gifted me my first jazz kit. It was my gateway to drumming, and the beginning of my journey as a musician.”

His musical journey progressed as he transitioned from drumming to mastering the piano, ultimately embracing the role of a music producer. For Samuel, the driving force behind his musical pursuits is the desire to bring the unique melodies in his mind to life for others to enjoy. “I often find myself lost in my own music,” he admitted. “These melodies play in my mind, and I hum them aloud, hoping others will appreciate the symphonies that reside within my heart.”

Yet, Samuel faced challenges on his path to stardom. His innovative and modern music style often clashed with the preferences of his local environment. “My music was ahead of its time,” he explained. “Adapting to this environment pushed me to blend modern tunes with tribal songs, cultivating my distinctive musical identity.”

Balancing his roles as a music producer, pianist, and music director requires meticulous planning. Samuel shared his approach: “I jot down my visions and goals yearly. I have a reliable assistant who takes on tasks under my supervision. Everything about music is fascinating to my soul. Music is not just an occupation; it’s a soul-enriching pursuit.”

Retaining authenticity amid fame is essential to Samuel. “Staying true to myself is the key to my uniqueness,” he affirmed. “I owe it to God for helping me maintain my authenticity and originality.”

As for advances from female fans, Samuel relies on self-control guided by his faith. He prefers to remain focused on his career and future. “When I decide to settle down, I’ll choose a female friend who complements my personality,” he shared.

Samuel’s music has taken him across the globe, introducing his unique style to diverse audiences. He acknowledged the initial challenges of presenting his music to those unfamiliar with it but emphasized the importance of adaptability. “I learned to switch styles when necessary, ensuring a harmonious flow with fellow musicians,” he said.

He also revealed his favorite song to perform on stage: “Out of My Belly” by Prospa Ochimana, Theophilus Sunday, and Moses Akoh.

Offering advice to aspiring music producers, Samuel emphasized the significance of passion, diligence, and continual learning. “Be passionate about your craft, dive into the details, stay diligent, and maintain consistency in your learning journey. Music takes time, and it’s the time you invest that shapes your musical essence.”
