Corona donates borehole to maternity home

To alleviate the hardship experienced by pregnant women, mothers and their babies, students of Corona Secondary School, (CSS) Agbara Press Club, have donated a borehole facility to Odugbe Health/Maternity Centre in Ado-Odo/Ota area of Ogun State.

Lack of basic amenities, such as potable water according to members of the community; have consistently posed serious health challenges for both the health workers and those who visit the centre for medical attention.

President of the CSS press club, Bowofoluwa Ogunro said their goal is to assist the centre, as well as members of the community to get access to potable water.

He stressed that every effort should be made to make life comfortable for vulnerable Nigerians, especially mothers and their babies.

“Government alone cannot do everything, hence we took the initiative to contribute our quota in the provision of potable water, which is very crucial to the clinic and maternity home, especially in the wake of the outbreak of some diseases in the country.”

Speaking at the formal commissioning of the project, the council’s Supervisor for health, Mr.Owolabi Olaleye, said he was deeply touched by the gesture especially by the fact that children were initiating the project.

He said; “ If a school can do this, this is an indication that they are capable of doing more in future. We are indeed humbled by this donation.”

He charged members of the community to make good use of the facility saying “Corona has taken the pains to build this facility please maintain it. The local government would also assist in any way possible especially with maintenance.”

An excited Chief Nursing Officer and Matron of the Centre, Mrs. Taiwo Ogunmoroti applauded the school for continuously seeking to alleviate the plight of women and children in the community.

“This is not the first time the school is donating to health centres in the community. This initiative is a laudable one because giving water is like giving life and these children have not hesitated in putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged in the community,” she said.

According to her, while the centre caters for over a hundred mothers every month, “the donation is a project that would live even after we are all gone, this is a legacy that would last forever and continue to touch lives. Seeing these very young children coming out to do something of this nature for the community is indeed humbling. It is something worth emulating.”
