Over 15 widows and residents of rural communities in Lagos State and its environs have benefited from the largesse of Ajoke Ayisat Afolabi Foundation [AAAF], through its vocational skills and empowerment programme.

The one-month training covers tie and dye, beads and hat making, while the beneficiaries, were given loans and welfare packages to start their businesses, to reduce pains and poverty.

The participants, who got a loan of N50, 000 each, were encouraged to embrace saving culture and other ways of boosting small and medium scale enterprises.

A Socio-sector manager and trainer, Madam Treasures Uchegubu, urged the beneficiaries to use the loans judiciously and be very transparent and innovative.

While appreciating Alimosho Local Government for supporting the foundation, Uchegubu urged government at all levels, to collaborate with organisations to provide several programmes for the people, to empower women and children in the society.

Mrs. Odunjo Roseline, a widow and mother of three from Ipaja, who eulogised the foundation for the vocational training and scholarship for one of her children, appealed to government to support projects for women and widows. “AAAF has also trained 15 of us in vocational skills-tie and dye, hats and beads making for one month. I have also benefited today from the loan for my business.”

Mr. Orishadare Olatunji, a physically challenged beneficiary, appreciated the AAAF for the huge support, “they sponsored my accountancy course at the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo. Today, I am an accountancy graduate. I have also learned how to make Adire tie and dye craft, my accounting experience would really assist my business.”
