Going back to Bethel – Part 6

Text: Genesis 28:1-22; Genesis 35:1-12
Key Verse: Genesis 35:6, “So Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him.” (NKJV)’

Jacob came to Luz, that is Bethel, with all the people who were with him. Every pastor should lead the church back to the Rock of Ages and preach Jesus. Every leader in the church should lead the people back to Bethel. As a traditional ruler of your community, lead your people back to God and as a political leader, lead your constituency back to God. Let us all return to God. When we return to God, He will pour His blessings upon our lives.

Jacob and his household returned to Bethel and built an altar there and called it “El-bethel” meaning, “God is the God of Bethel” because it was there that God appeared to him when he fled from his brother (Genesis 35:7). Having returned to Him, God appeared to Jacob and blessed him (Genesis 35:9). God changed his name from Jacob to Israel, which means the “Prince of God”, one who has power with God and man. If any man has power with God, he has power with men. If men plan to kill you because your name is Mordecai, that same night God will stop them, there is nothing they can do. If they throw you into Lion’s den, God will close the mouths of the Lions and then God will throw them back into the den of lions. When God throws them into the lion’s den, He will open the lions’ mouths to devour them. If they cast you into the fire, as they are casting you into the fire, it will scourche them and you will not be hurt. As somebody is going to say, did we not cast three men into the fire, are our eyes deceiving us and why are we seeing four? They will know why they are seeing four because when they were casting three men into fire, they didn’t know that they were people of God, Who does not abandon His own.

We are standing on Christ and not on anything else. You can’t stand on your education; you can’t stand on your riches, they don’t mean anything; you can’t stand on your family name; you can’t stand on your fame, it is nothing and you can’t stand on your connections. You can only stand on Christ. Let us exalt Jesus in our lives, in our homes and wherever we go. There is a song that says, “Crown Him, crown Him, Christ our Lord and King! Through all ages, let His praises ring! Glory, honour to His name we’ll bring now and forevermore.”

The problem of the church in recent times is that people like to collect all the blessings, but they don’t want to submit to God. People like to collect the blessings, but they don’t want to remove the foreign gods and people want to collect the blessings, but they want to stop living in sin. The blessings don’t come first; your relationship with God comes first and then the blessings come after.

These things are conditional; these things are not unconditional blessings; they are conditional blessings. Return to bethel and God will come back in all His Majesty; He will come back in all His power; He will come back in all His love, glory and grace; He will visit you with all His kindness and you will not lack because God will be there to meet your needs and to provide for you.

Today’s Nugget: Your relationship with God comes first.
