A non-Governmental Organisation, Face of Charity, in partnership with MTN foundation has donated classroom furniture to the pupils’ of
Tukutu primary school, Toro, Bauchi State.

These include; chairs, desks, tables and bookshelves for the pupils, while 10 other items were provided for their teachers.

The team also laid the foundation of two blocks of six classrooms, which after completion would cater for the needs of Tukutu children who are presently learning under sun and rain.

Executive Director of the group, Mr. Martins Idemudia disclosed that the gesture was to bring relief to the pupils who had been learning under very bad
 conditions.

He lamented the community’s lack of basic amenities such as motorable
roads, school buildings, electricity and pipe borne water, stressing that it
was
appalling to see students sit under trees to learn “with one teacher
attending to over four classes (primary one to four) moving from one end of the tree to the other.”

Idemudia said despite the pupil’s pitiable conditions, they
still have tall ambitions to become doctors, traders, and military
officers, among others.

He appealed to well-meaning Nigerians and private organisations to endeavour to always reach out to the less privileged and communities that are in need.

“It is very touching to see people drink water from mud pots and students learning under the tree. I felt very ashamed to call
myself a Nigerian. Our team will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the people of Tukutu community leave normal lives.”

Representative of MTN, Mafeng Mafeng, who lauded Idemudia for choosing Tukutu primary school, said the
gesture was part of the Corporate Social Responsibility of the
foundation.

“If we have more dedicated Nigerians looking out for the less privileged despite activities of the insurgents in the North, the country will be a better place for all.”

Idemudia was later bestowed with a chieftaincy title of Chiroma of
Tukutu and Sarkin Yaki II by the village head, who expressed
his heart felt gratitude for the hands of help extended to his
community.
