Clerics charged to put God first, shun race for wealth

The Senior Pastor, Prevailers’ Arena, Pastor Peter Yakubu has charged clerics to remain true to their callings and shun lust for wealth and material possessions.

The cleric, who made the call at a church service in Lagos to mark his 50th birthday said this is contrary to the charge given to them to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness before all other things are added. He said: “What we find in the church today is that they are seeking all these other things, hoping that the kingdom of God will now follow them. That is why today there is an aberration, a distortion in the body of Christ. They have termed ‘success’ as the mundane, which is really a major concern.”

The celebrant also advised upcoming and younger pastors to be wary of material acquisitions, saying if they serve God truly and genuinely, He will meet their needs. He said: “Find out what it is that God has called you to do and do it. Don’t look for money; it will look for you. Don’t abandon your work, and don’t resign if you don’t see the money coming. God will take care of you. Be satisfied with what you have and time will come when you’ll have surplus, so that you can help others.”
