.How do we do God’s will? (cont)

Turning to the stars for guidance can drain and damage your life spiritually. Read the account in Acts 16 of the slave girl possessed by an evil spirit that predicted the future and see how Paul dealt with the matter.

The Bible contains many texts that tell us God desires to guide us. Interest in astrology (as opposed to astronomy) will not lead you towards God, but away from Him.

Why Should We Not Be Guided By Creation?
“And take heed, lest you lift your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, you feel driven to worship them and serve them, which the Lord your God has given to all the peoples under the whole heaven as a heritage,” (Deut 4:19).
Read Deut 18:9-13. These are abominable heathen practices. It is the sin of idolatry.

(7) Some Personalities Guided By God
“The Spirit told Philip, “go to that chariot and stay near it” (Acts 8:29).
There are many examples in both OT and NT whom God explicitly guided beyond our expectations, for example, Abraham’s chief servant, Eliezer (Gen 24:1-27). Moses, Samuel and the prophets. Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch (Acts 8:26-40). Ananias and the newly converted Saul, Simon Peter being guided to the house of Cornelius (Acts 10); and Paul being guided to Macedonia (Acts 16:6,10). If the God-man Jesus was guided by His Father ¬— what excuse do human beings have?
“You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron,” (Ps 77:20).

Guided Unknowingly
• Often God gives us guidance without our being conscious of it.
“I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight. These things I will do for them, and not forsake them,” (Is 42:16).
“Who says of Cyrus, ‘He is My shepherd, and he shall perform all My pleasure, saying to Jerusalem, “You shall be built,” and to the temple, “Your foundation shall be laid,” (Is 44:28).

Cyrus…temple. Isaiah identifies Cyrus by name as the very one who would initiate the release of the Jews from captivity (v.28). This prophecy was made 150 years before its fulfillment; in 538BC., Cyrus issued a decree permitting the Jews to return to Jerusalem to rebuild their city and temple (Ezra 1:1-2). God so ordered events in the birth of Cyrus and life that God’s own plans and purposes were fulfilled to the letter (see 41:2).
Isaiah, who prophesied from about 740-681B.C., called Cyrus by name almost 150 years before he rules (559-530 B.C)!
Later historians said that Cyrus read this prophecy and was so moved that he carried it out.
