The Holy Spirit reveals, teaches and guides us into all the provisions of God when He comes in to dwell in our hearts. Unlike human teachers, the Holy Spirit is not limited in knowledge; He reveals heavenly things and makes us to know our possessions in the Lord.
He will grant us the realisation of God’s plenitude if we are ready to study His word, “comparing spiritual things (we have read) with spiritual (what we are aiming at)”.
No one can know our thoughts, motives, plans, backgrounds and desires more than us. Likewise, “the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.” He reveals God to us in totality and truth. He grants us comprehension of the things that are of God. Without Him, we cannot understand the Scriptures. He makes the word of God to penetrate and impact our lives. He brings conviction upon us and gives us understanding of our possessions in Christ, as well as how we can have them.
He possesses the knowledge of the past, present and future, and the provision of God for us. “Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come.” If we want the Spirit of God to grant us comprehension, we must take time to pray and wait on the Lord.
As saints who hear the word of God, we must open our minds, hearts, spirits and souls, to receive “the spirit which is of God.” While there is the Spirit of God, there is also the spirit of the world. Both cannot abide or reign in the same heart. The spirit of the world is the attitude of the world; it brings up worldly character, principles and habits in those under its control. It is the spirit of the age, which comes with violence, hypocrisy, arrogance, unbelief and rebellion.
We must drive out such spirit along with its actions and attitudes. To do this, we must have the Spirit of God, which brings light and takes away our burden, old habits and actions. It is after this we come to “know the (promises of healing, power, deliverance, victory, prosperity and all the provisions of Calvary) that are freely given to us of God.” The Spirit also speaks with our spirit, assuring us that we have the practical, positive, pungent and possessive faith to receive these treasures.
Believers do not draw example from orators, singers, heroes, politicians, the occult and the idolatrous. Instead, they learn from “the Holy Ghost (who)teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” When the Holy Ghost comes on the throne of the heart of a believer and abides there, like Paul, He will teach, grant enlightenment, compare and contrast spiritual things (the Bible) with spiritual things in his life. But if we do not allow the Spirit of God to work in our lives, we will end up comparing carnal things with spiritual things.
