I have seen people running from pillar to post seeking meaning to their dreams. But it is only God through His servants who really can interpret dreams. You should not attempt to use you own reasoning to interpret any dream or use the knowledge of a previous dream’s interpretation. That two dreams are similar does not give them same meaning.

“And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, in my dream, behold, a vine was before me; and in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes. And Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand,” Genesis 40:9-11.

“And Joseph said unto him, this is the interpretation of it: the three branches are three days. Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler. But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house. For indeed, I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.

“When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, I had three white baskets on my head: and in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bake meats for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head,” Genesis 40:12-17

We see Pharaoh’s butler and baker had two similar dreams, but the two has different meanings. To the butler Joseph said, “in few days’ time you will resume your work back as before” and when the baker saw the interpretation given to the butler was good, he decided to say his own dream since it was similar, but Joseph said, “in three days’ time he will be released and killed.”

Even if people are twins and sleep on the same bed, and then dream the same dream, it doesn’t mean they will have the same interpretation. Every dream has to do with different individuals and their destinies. Many have made mistakes using similar dreams from different people to judge each dream, this is wrong.

Dreams to be interpreted must be examined from the angle of the dreamer’s life and the setting of the dream. It is better your Pastor who knows you well than a stranger does this (that is, if you are a transparent disciple). Except in cases where God specially reveals the interpretation to His choice servant for the benefit of the dreamer.

In Genesis 41, Pharaoh had a dream and called the magicians, sorcerers for the interpretation, but was not satisfied until Joseph came with the right interpretation.

You do not need to go to the witch at Endor; there are men in who lays the spirit of God to interpret dreams by God’s spirit. Not people of self-interest or who have their own selfish agenda over you, but men of excellent spirit; not biased minds (1 Samuel 28). If a dream is given a right interpretation to a child of God it clicks with his spirit even when the dream may make you sad at the right interpretation, but once the right interpretation comes, the dreamer knows within himself that this is it.

Why did Pharaoh agree with Joseph’s interpretation? In Daniel Chapter 2, we see Daniel’s interpretation of the dream of Nebuchadnezzar, when the right interpretation comes it clicks with your spirit whether a rebuke or correction, but it will agree with your spirit.

Interpretations do not have to suit your idea, desire or natural thinking as long as it is the right one. Don’t always look out for interpretations to satisfy your human limited expectations. Dreams are spiritual things and as such, their interpretations do not have to align with your common sense. Every right interpretation comes from God.

“Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, the secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king; but there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to King Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these,” (Daniel 2: 27-28).
