The Catholic Men Organisation, Archdiocese of Lagos, last Sunday, inducted 1,600 new members into their fold. The ceremony, which was performed by the Archbishop Metropolitan See of Lagos, Most Rev. Dr. Alfred Adewale Martins at St. Gregory College in Ikoyi, Lagos, was attended by church members from various parishes.

Exhorting the newly inducted members, Martins, who spoke on the bad influence women have on men in the society today, cited the example of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel in the Bible.

He explained that Queen Jezebel was a Sidonian, who came to Israel with her false god Baal, through which she negatively influenced Ahab to build a temple for the false god in the land of Israel, which later became a snare to the children of Israel, as they worshipped it, instead of the true God. That singular act, according to the Catholic Head, made God to destroy Ahab’s kingdom through His servant Elijah.

While urging Christians to have faith in God, the cleric said Ahab was weak in upholding his faith and as such, he was led astray by his wife, Jezebel.

He said Christians should develop the attitude of always praying to God, adding that God Who answered Elijah and used an angel to supply his food will hear their prayers, when they cry to the Him in their need.

He said: “Ahab, Jezebel and Elijah reflect what is happening today in our society and anytime we are tired, or feel we cannot go on anymore, God will always send an angel to us. Therefore, it is my prayer that God will send His angel to revive Nigeria. Many occasions too, God would send an angel, but we hardly recognise it. As individuals, we should pay attention anytime we are in trouble, because one way or the other, God will surely send an angel to revive our spirit.”

At the end of the event, the Archbishop gave some deserving members excellence award, exemplary leadership award, consistence award, as well as, distinguished associate award.
