Seek eternal life, shun earthly things, Nwanegbo enjoins Christians

The Provincial Pastor and Coordinator of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Belgium Mission, Pastor Mike ChuksNwanegbo has said that many people are in the church today only for solutions/earthly things and not primarily to seek God for eternal life.

The Belgium-based Nigerian cleric spoke at the thanksgiving service held recently at the Foursquare Gospel Church, Alaka District, Lagos.

Speaking on the topic: “Hope In Christ,” he said the main purpose of Jesus Christ on earth is not only to solve problems, but also to give eternal life to as many that will believe on Him. He, therefore, called on Pastors and Christians to truly serve God, emphasising that anything short of eternal life has no value to mankind.

Nwanegbo said: “If you trust God to save your soul, lead a holy live and evangelising to save souls everything you need in life will be provided for you.”

Sounding a note of warning to fellow pastors, who elevate prophecy and anointing above hope in Christ and eternal life, the Provincial Pastor and Coordinator stressed that many of such pastors including Christians would be disappointed on the day of reckoning.

“Unfortunately, many people are in the church, but very few people are in Jesus Christ and that is why the Lord said that on the last day many will be surprised. In fact, I have always told my fellow pastors that even anointing can deceive you. Anointing is even so dangerous that if you are looking unto anointing, anointing is for service, it is to serve the people. Anointing is not what takes you to eternal life, it’s Jesus that takes you to eternal life. Anointing is a gift given to you and if you are excited because you lay your hands on the sick and they recover and your prayers are answered does not guarantee you of eternal life. This is why Jesus said on the last day, many will say ‘did I not do this or that in your name’ and He will say to them, ‘depart from me, ye workers of iniquity.”

Nwanegbo also cited Abraham, Moses, Isaiah and David, among others, as fathers of faith, who believed in Jesus Christ even without seeing Him. According to him, “hope in Christ started long ago. Abraham’s hope was in Christ as father of faith…”

He also appreciated the groom and bride, Chidiebere Okereke and his wife, Blessing, who came forward to thank God for the success of their wedding the previous day. They were accompanied by their parents, District Overseer, Foursquare Gospel Church, Alaka District, Reverend Roland Okereke and his wife, Reverend Ebere Okereke; Prof Ignatius Okafor and his wife, Joy Okafor. He He prayed that God will make everything work well for them.

The father of the groom, Reverend Roland Okereke, who also prayed for the couple, reminded them of God’s promises in their lives, and asked Him to fulfill what He said concerning them.

Okereke said: “He has found a good thing and God who said, he that finds a wife finds a good thing will favour him. You will receive and walk in overflowing favour in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

“The blessing of God maketh rich and added no sorrow to it. There shall be no evil added to this marriage in the might name of Jesus. In this journey you will experience the goodness and mercy of God and will not struggle like your parents did to achieve things in life. Every arrow from the pit of hell against this relationship as a man that is called by God and as servant of God, I stand on this altar to cancel those arrows and to reverse their intensions.”

I also send them back to their senders in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I pray oh, Lord everything that has been working against the parents of the Okafors and Okerekes will not work against you in the name of our Lord Jesus’ Christ. You will be greater than the two parents in the mighty name of Jesus.”
