One of the major differences between successful people and average people is simply their responses to counsel.

One of the major differences between successful people and average people is simply their responses to counsel.

“Plans fail with no counsel, but with many counselors they succeed. PROV 15:22(CEB)
“Refuse good advice and watch your plans fail; take good counsel and watch them succeed.” PROV 15:22 (MSG)

Quite a lot of people fail because they shun wise counsel. Whenever you are making major decision in your life, you need to seek wise counsel. Nobody can ever out-grow wise counsel, because we know in part.

There are three categories of people: (1) Those who don’t take counsel. (2) Those who take foolish counsel (3) Those who take wise counsel.

Those Who Don’t Take Counsel
Nobody is a know-it-all, therefore, nobody is above counsel. Those who don’t take counsel end up failing. No age limit to counsel, as long as, you are alive, you need counsel from time to time. Many people are paying dearly for lack of counsel. Prayer is not a substitute for counsel; there are many prayer warriors that are gallant failures because of lack of wise counsel. There is really nothing one can use to substitute wise counsel.

“Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” PROV 11:14(NKJV)

Where there is no counsel, plan fails, but in the multitude of counsel, success is inevitable. The category of people that does not take counsel are either proud or stiff-necked. What is supposed to be simple, end up becoming complex because of lack of counsel. People in this category feel that they are always right and nobody is qualify to counsel them. This is a dangerous place to be, because failure becomes unavoidable. What you are looking ahead to get, somebody already have it in his hand. What you call your future is somebody’s’ today. There is no new thing under the heaven; someone has treaded the path you are planning to go. Stop being the all-in-all of your life. (Ecclesiastes 9)

“Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all.” Proverbs 3:5-7(MSG).

There are times in life you think you are right, but you are actually wrong. Don’t try to figure everything out on your own. Don’t allow what should have cost you “40 days,” cost you “40 years because you are not taking counsel. If you allow your life and business to be run by Godly and wise counsel, you will go farther in life.

Those Who Take Foolish Counsel
If there is wise counsel, it also means there is foolish and wrong counsel. Not all counsel is right. As much as you need counsel, you need to take the right one.

“The gullible believe anything they’re told; the prudent sift and weigh every word.” PROV 14:15 (MSG)

If you want to go far in life, you have to avoid wrong and foolish counsel. You can’t afford to take counsel from every source; you have to be careful about who counsels you on matters that matter to your destiny. You have to learn how to scan every counsel through the word of God. If the counsel is not rooted in the word, throw it in the dustbin-no matter, who is giving the counsel.

“Blessed is the man WHO WALKS NOT IN THE COUNSEL OF THE UNGODLY, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;” Ps 1:1 (NKJV)

Another word for blessed is “highly favoured.” The one who avoids ungodly counsel will be highly favoured. Many people have lost their marriages, money, businesses and career, because of foolish counsel.

You must stay away from people that give you negative counsel, and get connected with people that are more experienced and smarter than you. I pray that you will not be a victim of negative and wrong counsel.
Plans fail with no counsel, but with many counselors, they succeed. Proverb 15:22 (CEB)

Stop taking counsel from everywhere; everybody can’t be your counselor. Swallow your pride, and get wisdom from experienced counselor.

Those Who Take Wise Counsel
Refuse good advice and watch your plan fail; take good advice and watch them succeed. Prov 15:22 (MSG)

Wise people seek wise counsel at every major junction of their life. Great achievers will always borrow from the wisdom of wise people. If you want to live a life of excellence, always seek wise counsel before taking major decisions. We have seen on the media, how Bill Gates (the richest man in the world) visits Warren Buffet (one of the oldest billionaires in the world) for counsel from time to time. We have also seen Mark Zuckerberg (Founder of Facebook) visits Bill Gates from time to time for counsel.

As wealthy and successful these men are, they borrow from the wisdom of those who are ahead of them. Seeking wise counsel is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength. Many of us wait until we have a break down before we seek counsel. But it is better to seek counsel for prevention is better than cure.

There is no self-made successful person; every successful person is a combination of wisdom from many sides. Stop suffering in silence, go for relevant wisdom.

“He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed.” Proverbs 13:20(NKJV). I pray that the Spirit of God will always guide you to the place where you can get the right counsel.
