The Chairman, Lagos Chapter Council of Knights, Dame Adetope Tychus has decried the disappearing culture of Hymns/Psalms in the Methodist Church in Nigeria and across the globe.

Tychus, who called for its preservation, said that the culture was handed over to the Church by its founding fathers, John and Charles Wesley and urged for its rejuvenation so that upcoming generation will continue with it.

Speaking at the maiden edition of the Methodist Church, Nigeria, Council of Knights, Lagos Chapter Festival of Hymns and Psalms held at Methodist Church of the Trinity, Tinubu, Lagos, Tychus noted that the preaching of God’s word is through chanting, singing of praises and worshipping the Lord with Hymns.

She said: “It has becomes very important to note that we are organising this programme today to re-awaken this rich culture because we do not want to loose it. This is the reason we have brought students of Igbobi College and Methodist School to imbibe in the rich culture and embrace it.

“It is good that we are having this programme now because soonest, Methodist Church, Nigeria, will be 180 years. We believe when we sing, we are equally praying and when we praise God, the nation will be blessed.”

Commenting on insecurity in the nation, Tychus called on Nigerians to pray for those in authority so that God would guide and direct them to do the right things.
